Illegitimate daughter of Emperor Charles V and Johanna van der Gheynst, in 1536 she married Alessandro de’ Medici, becoming Duchess of Florence. Widowed shortly thereafter, she later became Duchess consort of Parma and Piacenza, playing a significant political role in the Habsburg Italian territories.
