Son of Ludovico Alvise Manin and Angela Maria Tiepolo, he married Elisabetta Grimani. He was Doge of Venice from 1789 to 1797; he abdicated after the fall of the Republic in the face of Napoleonic advance, becoming the last doge of the Serenissima.
