Son of Victor Amadeus II and Anne Marie of Orléans, he ascended the throne of Sardinia in 1730. He married firstly Polyxena of Hesse-Rotenburg and later Elisabeth Therese of Lorraine. His reign consolidated the Savoyard state during the eighteenth century.
