Daughter of Bartolomeo Cappello and Pellegrina Morosini, Venetian nobles, in 1579 she married Francesco I de’ Medici, becoming Grand Duchess of Tuscany. Her rise caused scandal at court; she died in 1587 under suspicious circumstances, a few days after her husband.
